Happy Father's Day!

Okay, so I know this post is a day late, but I couldn't very well post the goods before my dad saw them, on the off chance he'd check out a crafting blog...

I found a blog one day that had a really cute pillow with embroidered hands on the front. I thought I bookmarked the site, but can not find it for my life. So, with just the memory of it in my mind I figured out how I wanted to do it. I chose a 12 inch pillow form and went from there. I picked an off white kona for the front with blue and pink thread for the hands. I didn't want the front to become too busy so I figured keeping with the blue is for boys, pink is for girls color scheme we would all be able to tell whose hands were whose (if the size wasn't an indicator). For the back I used some scraps I had left over from making my mom's quilt. Then I finished it up (an idea from my husband) with a tag that says 2011, so we could remember the year.

At first I tried tracing their hands, but the lines were jagged and some parts didn't match well. My husband came up with the idea to have the kids put their hands on a white sheet of paper while he took a picture. He then uploaded the pic to an editing program and worked his magic. I traced the hands to the fabric by taping the pieces to a window.

I really like the back. I had to redo it 3 times though. The first time the fold came down too low. Then I took too much in and the pillow was busting through. Finally, success! I think the like brown polka dots match well with the light colors on the front.

(My dad also got this mug rug I made a few weeks ago.)

I hope everyone had a great father's day and was able to share it with those they love.
